Smart City Master Plan For East Siem Reap Is Being Developed

Compass Cambodia report, July 30 - On Thursday, July 29, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) of Cambodia and the Ministry of Transportation of Japan held an online meeting to discuss the preliminary feasibility study results of the east Siem Reap smart city master plan and wastewater treatment and sanitation system enhancement project.

HE Kem Borey, MPWT Under Secretary of State, presided over the discussion, which was also attended by the Japanese Ministry of Transport and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Overall, the discussion focused on the wastewater management and sanitation methods and conditions that must be in place before moving forward with smart city development. The focus of the debate was also on examining how to improve and control construction growth in quickly developing locations across the country. Three zones in Siem Reap province, comprising the city zone, historical heritage zone, and Tonle Sap zone, have been preliminarily identified as the target development region, according to a plan previously published by MPWT. The plan will also involve upgrades to the security system, transportation, and waste management, among other things, with a 2020 to 2031 completion date.

Despite the fact that tourism in Siem Reap is currently suffering because of the epidemic, the Cambodian government continues to invest in the province's infrastructure.

As of late June, work on the 38-road repair had reached almost 63 percent completion.
